An Epic Moment :: 2012 U Can Make A Difference Banquet
Councilman Jay Roberson served as the Master of Ceremony for the “U Can Make A Difference Banquet” as 200 guest attended to support the non-profit organization Appointed Time which was founded by Pastor Sam Dansby.
An emotional Karlos Dansby took the stage as the keynote speaker and delivered a message that was straight from his heart. He thanked his wife, family and father for all of the contributions they made throughout his life. He described his journey from middle school to the NFL and described what he called epic moments that changed his life.
One of his first epic moments was sharing with his father his desire to quit football to focus on basketball and work a job. He told the audience his father asked him why he wanted to quit basketball and his response was he wanted to work and help the family. His father told him he would provide everything he needed and told him one day he would want for nothing. Through his fathers encouraging words he stuck with both sports and went on to win a state basketball championship with the Woodlawn High School Colonels. Other epic moments include marrying his wife, playing SEC football at Auburn University and getting drafted to the NFL.
Karlos shared with the audience that although he is blessed to be in his ninth season he feels like he is just beginning as he enters into the world of business. Inspired by Magic Johnson, Karlos has a business venture with Butler’s Executive Grooming that has partnered with SAKS Fifth Avenue as well as a multi-million dollar new venture dealing with bio fuel. Both ventures look to be promising and could set Karlos Dansby up to be a billionaire before he retires.
One of the highlights of the evening was the presentation of the U Can Make A Difference – Difference Makers Award presented to the Wenonah High School Basketball Team. The Dragons have won the 5A state high school championship for the past two years. Pastor Dansby and Karlos presented the trophy to the team.
Appointed Time Outreach offers several programs under its umbrella which includes the Bibles and Balls Faith Based sports camps, Family Tech Day, the On Course Golf Tournament, healthy food and let’s move campaigns plus several programs that give student athletes a foundation for college level sports and education opportunities.

Pretty Tony Taylor and the Black Folks Feud

We got a chance to talk to Pretty Tony Taylor aka “PTT” about his new project, the Black Folks Feud, which I must admit offers some refreshing moments in creativity and comedy from many of Birmingham’s own.
Pretty Tony has become one of Birmingham’s most recognizable figures with his stylish dress, hairstyles and his popular pimp cups. Tony grew up in Pratt City and is a 1998 graduate of Jackson Olin High School.
URBANHAM: First of all, we want to congratulate you on the new media project and let you know we think its great. Tell us what inspired you to do the Black Folks Feud.
PTT: I am a big fan of sketch comedy and game shows. I really miss the work of guys like Robert Townsend, Arseno Hall, The Wayons, Dave Chappelle and Richard Dawson so we started this project and it has been well received. I am also a huge fan of Steve Harvey … he is a genius. My show is a game show with the sketch comedy vibe.
URBANHAM: How did you get started with your Signature Pimp Cups?
PTT: (Laughing) The pimp cup started from going into bars and needing to eliminate the time it took to get a drink plus I was a fan of Big Daddy Kane back in the day. When I walk in with my cup the bartenders usually see it and sometimes it helps me get faster service. When I was growing up we would have company and I was always told not to bring guest a paper cup. So I don’t like to drink from paper cups when I go out and pay $12 for a drink so I take my cup.
URBANHAM: How many pimp cups do you have?
PTT: I have about twelve and I have retired a large number of the cups. My cups are custom made out of Florida so I try to come out with a new one every few months.
URBANHAM: Who have you worked with?
PTT: The show is young and I like to work with people that have good personalities and that I think are funny. It makes the show much easier to host and produce. So far on the show I have worked with Theo Garfield, Tanika Harrell, BIG Rob and many of my co-workers from Surin West.
URBANHAM: What’s next for the show?
PTT: It would be great to be picked up as a reality show on a network like Comedy Central and ultimately reach people across the nation. The Internet is helping me do this but a television audience is what we are going after.
URBANHAM: Anyone out there you want to give a shout out to?
PTT: Yeah, Nik Layman who handles the video for the show, First Impressions Marketing, Surin West, digitalartshosting.com/urbanham, my hairstylist Stephanie Matthews and my Dad.
URBANHAM: How can people reach you to inquire about the show
PTT: Hit me up at tnytaylor@yahoo.com or tnytaylor@gmail.com
