It was great to have the opportunity to sit down and talk with some very inspiring young men that call themselves Black ROC Investment Group. What really peeked my interest about this group is how they have taken a very simple idea that many people seem to miss. Power in numbers.
Black ROC is an investment group which consist of several African American men that have the vision of investing in minority businesses while Reaching Our Community (ROC). These guys are not from wall street or ivy league business schools. They are products of their communities. They are blue collar workers, family men and visionaries. The members of Black ROC Investment Group are coal miners that earn an honest living. They work together in a dangerous environment and make good money. Through their friendships at work they each saw a need to help small business owners and invest in their communities. This is what led them to come together outside of the coal mines and form Black ROC Investment Group.
I shared with the group the story about A.G. Gaston from the book Black Titan. Who just like these young men worked in the coal mines. A.G. Gaston’s business empire started out of the coal mines as he would loan money to his co-workers and later sell insurance to the same group. A.G. Gaston went on to become on of the wealthiest African American business men in the world. The future looks great for Black ROC.

Birmingham, AL—Master Stylist Tyeshia Miles has been styling hair and transforming lives for a decade. A certified cosmetologist with a passion for styling and the study of hair, Miles has used her hair studio, The Signature Salon as the catalyst for her craft since 2009.
Fulfilling a purpose dating back to childhood, Tyeshia Miles prides herself in knowing hair from its chemical composition to the appropriate styles for clients of all ages and races. “I believe my knowledge of the science of hair has privileged me to a loyal clientele base. They trust my expertise beyond the hairstyle itself. They trust me to nurture their hair and keep it healthy,” said Miles. More than a salon, and more like a circle of friends, Tyeshia Miles says The Signature Salon is a gift from God to her clients. Daring to step out on faith in an unstable economic climate and during personal financial adversity, Tyeshia Miles believes The Signature Salon has God’s signature on it. “I enjoy the privilege I have as a stylist to impact my client’s lives spiritually, emotionally and physically, being there with them through times of celebration and sadness. I believe, when you look better, you feel better and as a result you do better in life. We “Do Life Together”,” she said.
The Signature Salon boasts a roster of licensed and professional stylists specializing in friendly, fashionable and time-conscious service. The Signature Salon offers quality hair care services to include: Various color techniques, Haircuts, Relaxer Services, Roller and Wet sets, Weave Extensions, Natural and Transitioning hair care and Braiding. Make -Up services for everyday wear and special occasions are soon to come.
The Signature Salon is an “appointment-preferred” salon, making every effort to accommodate each client’s scheduling needs. Located at 2112 Morris Avenue in the Historic Morris Avenue District of Downtown Birmingham, its exposed bricks create the perfect canvas for its relaxing, earth-hued, eclectic decor. Tyeshia Miles wanted The Signature Salon to be an experience to behold. “I envisioned a place where clients can feel comfortable and relax while enjoying a warm, welcoming feeling when they arrive, a music-filled atmosphere during their time with us and the satisfaction of excellent service when they depart,” said Miles.
