Chaka Khan (born Yvette Marie Stevens; March 23, 1953), frequently known as the “Queen of Funk-Soul“, is a 10-time Grammy Award winning American singer-songwriter whose career has spanned four decades, beginning with fame in the 1970s as the frontwoman and focal point of the funk band Rufus.
While still a member of the group in 1978, Khan embarked on a successful solo career. Her signature hits, both with Rufus and as a solo performer, include “Tell Me Something Good”, “Sweet Thing” which she wrote for her then husband Richard Holland, “Ain’t Nobody”, “I’m Every Woman”, “I Feel for You” and “Through the Fire”.
Mint Condition is an R&B band from Saint Paul, Minnesota. Formed in the late 1980s, its original members were Stokley Williams (lead vocals, drums, percussion), Ricky Kinchen (bass guitar), Homer O’Dell (guitar), Larry Waddell (keyboards, piano), Keri Lewis (keyboards, synthesizer), and Jeffrey Allen (saxophone, keyboards). Currently, this line-up remains intact, with the exception of Lewis, who left the group to produce for other artists. The group is well known for its highly diverse musical style (able to play anything from traditional jazz stylings to mainstream R&B and rock-based music to funk grooves and even Latin and Jamaican-based rhythms) and also its captivating live performances. The band is also well known for their well written and produced R&B ballads, mainly in the 1990s. They mostly known for their hits “Breakin’ My Heart (Pretty Brown Eyes)” (1991) and “What Kind of Man Would I Be” (1996). By popular vote, the group was inducted into The SoulMusic Hall Of Fame at SoulMusic.com in December 2012.
Tickets for this show are on sale now for $55, $62 and $70 at www.magiccitytix.com

The Preserve Jazz Festival – presented by Tom Williams Lexus – are pleased to announce the 2013 headline act – SPYRO GYRA!
As Spyro Gyra contemplates upcoming milestones to its storied career, it’s tempting to fall back on the Grateful Dead lyric, “What a long strange trip it’s been” to describe it. During that time, they have performed over five thousand shows, released twenty-nine albums (not counting “Best Of…” compilations) selling over ten million albums while also achieving one platinum and two gold albums. These milestones included 2012, which celebrated thirty-five years since their first album release and 2014 will be forty years as a band. They show little sign of wanting to slow down either, gaining Grammy® nominations for each of their last four albums. Spyro Gyra’s is music whose core and desire was never for strictly commercial purposes. There was no calculated effort to sell millions of records, sell out concerts throughout the world, and inspire a whole new generation of musicians seeking an eclectic road of their own. When Beckenstein and Wall first started jamming back in Buffalo, they just did it because it was a blast, pure and simple. They made lyrical, jazzy music for a few folks at Jack Daniels, developed a high energy live gig, one thing led to another, and suddenly, instrumental music was never quite the same. The fun was suddenly not just theirs, but ours as well.
Tickets are available now at www.preservejazz.com. Tickets prices remain unchanged and range from $40 (general admission) to $125 (VIP) plus a small Ticket Biscuit processing fee. An overnight jazz package is also available through Ross Bridge Resort & Spa, which includes hotel accommodations, breakfast, parking and festival general admission tickets. Children 12 and under are admitted FREE.
Festival gates open to the general public at 3 pm, with musical performances starting at 4 pm.
