Farmers Market

Farmers Market

You do not want to miss the produce action that is happening at WaterMark Place Center every Saturday morning from 7 am to 10 am. Bright and early Farmers from across the state of Alabama head to Watermark Place to sale their farm fresh fruits and vegetables.

To give you an idea of what the Market offers Chapel Farms in Jemison sales quart jars of dill pickles and Jennifer Lilly sales homemade cookies, breads, and cinnamon rolls. These are just two of the vendors that participate in the weekly Market. As if that is not enough a Cooking Demonstration is presented each week using fresh fruits and vegetables purchased right from the market.

Your Purpose & Your Health

How many of you feel that not living out what’s deep inside of you is literally making you sick?

You know what to do, but you simply have not the courage to live it out.  Day in and day out you are urged from within to take that dreaded first step onto the known yet unknown path.  The path is known because you see it in your mind’s eye, you feel it, you experience it as real and familiar.  Yet the path is unknown for you have yet to truly live by FAITH guided by the spontaneous leadership of the Spirit within.

Think about it.  Which is better, to allow your purpose to perish with you or to courageously take the first step in full confidence that if you keep the vision, persistently act from that vision, that you will see it manifested in physical form.  This is healthy living!

Alabama State University: National Center to Host ‘The Dream Continues’ Art Exhibit

June 25, 2010 by Urbanham

The National Center for the Study of Civil Rights and African-American Culture at Alabama State University will display the exhibit “The Dream Continues,” featuring images by the Birmingham Art Association and Marcella Hayes Muhammad, from June 13 through Oct. 29. The opening reception for the exhibit will be held Sunday, June 13, from 3 to 5 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.

Muhammad is an award-winning artist, recognized for her elegant style, intricate detail and vibrant colors. Her work reflects the moods, emotions and beauty she experiences around her in everyday life. In addition to her original oil paintings, Muhammad is recognized for her popular licensed art series of “Ladies With Hats.” She uses realism, still life, abstraction, impressionism and her own style named “Plastic Space” to convey her message.

“With Plastic Space, I can explore the curvature of light and space around familiar objects,” she said. “The fluid use of light, shadow and balance captivate and engage the eye as if moving at light speed around three dimensional objects. Using this style, I can marry the heritage and traditions of the past and the beauty of the present into contemporary images that transcend time and culture.”

Muhammad has exhibited her work in schools, museums and galleries throughout the country. In 2002, Muhammad’s work became part of Hampton University Museum’s “New Power Generation, A National Juried Exhibition of African-American Art.” Her work was housed in the very same building which houses the great Henry O. Tanner masterpieces, among other notables.

Muhammad earned her BFA with honors from the California State University at San Bernardino. She also studied at the California College of Art and Design at Oakland and the University of California at Riverside. Her formal training and extensive experience gives her an extraordinary command of style and media that few artists possess. In 1995, after a successful career in elementary education, Muhammad relocated to Georgia, founded Maruva Studio and dedicated herself to painting full-time.

The National Center for the Study of Civil Rights and African-American Culture at ASU is located at 1345 Carter Hill Road. For more information, call 334-229-4876 or 334-229-4824.

presents…

AN EVENING WITH ERIC ROBERSON LIVE

There is a quiet, and strong emerging force in music that is making its way back to the forefront. Soul music is trying to continue it re-emergence from the early millennium, when artists like Jill Scott, Musiq Soulchild, India Arie, D’Angelo, and Maxwell were common household names in the music scene. Though it seems that Hip Hop/R&B and commercial R&B has retaken the reigns away from soul music, it is heavily rising underneath the repetitive rhetoric heard on the radio waves.
