SUMMARY:Love\, Laughter & Legacy: Alvin Garrett Brings a Soulful Mother’s Day Experience to Birmingham (May 10)
DESCRIPTION:BIRMINGHAM\, AL — If you’re looking for the perfect way to celebrate Mother’s Day this year\, Alvin Garrett is bringing something special to the Magic City. \nOn Sunday\, May 10\, the historic Carver Theatre will set the stage for “Laughter\, Love & Legacy: A Mother’s Day Celebration”—a one-of-a-kind experience blending live music\, comedy\, and heartfelt moments designed to honor the women who raised us. \nFor Garrett\, this isn’t just another show—it’s personal. \nA Homecoming with Purpose \n“I’m currently promoting a new album entitled Talk To Her Like This\, and this event is the perfect homecoming for my promotional tour\,” Garrett shared. \nThe project centers around love and uplifting women\, making Mother’s Day the ideal backdrop. \n“Why not bring it home on the holiday that we celebrate our mothers and talk to ‘them’ like this…or shall I say sing to them.” \n \nMore Than a Concert — It’s an Experience \nGarrett is intentional about the energy he brings to the stage\, and this show will be no different. \n“When I perform\, I always infuse love and laughter into my shows\,” he said. \nThat balance is key—especially on a day that can carry a range of emotions. \n“Mother’s Day may be a heavy emotional day for some; and I want this experience to be one that puts a smile on everyone’s face as we give flowers to the mothers that are with us and to those that are watching over us.” \n The Carver Theatre Connection \nReturning to the Carver Theatre adds another layer of meaning. \n“About 10 years ago\, I promoted ‘Christmas with The Cats’ at The Carver and it was one of my favorite venues\,” Garrett reflected. \nHe describes the venue as the perfect mix of intimacy and production value—ideal for the type of connection he wants with the audience. \n“I’m hoping this can be the start of a new tradition in Birmingham.” \nBeyond the nostalgia\, the Carver Theatre is experiencing a fresh wave of energy thanks to its recent renovations—earning praise from patrons\, promoters\, and even national touring artists. The upgraded auditorium now features a state-of-the-art audio/visual system\, delivering an immersive experience through enhanced sound\, projection\, and media control capabilities. The redesigned foyer offers a welcoming reception and bar area perfect for pre-show vibes and post-show conversations. Add in the jazz museum on the second floor\, and the Carver has reestablished itself as more than just a historic landmark—it’s a modern\, multi-experience venue built for everything from intimate concerts to full-scale productions. \nA Curated Lineup with Rising Talent \nJoining Garrett on stage are Yoshihanaa and DJ Wright\, both artists he’s actively working with behind the scenes. \n“I wanted to present artists that I am currently producing original music with as well\,” he said. \nFans can even expect to hear brand-new music\, including “Fall In Love Again\,” a record Garrett co-wrote and produced. \n \nHonoring Legacy Through Music \nThe heart of the show is right there in the title—Legacy. \n“Legacy has a soundtrack\,” Garrett explained\, pointing to the timeless influence of artists like Al Green. \nHe’s also planning a special tribute during the show\, including a performance of his song “Flowers\,” designed to honor both present and past mothers. \n“Love and laughter is the key to gracefully embracing the legacy of our mothers.” \nA Message Rooted in Joy \nGarrett credits much of his outlook—and his music—to his own mother. \n“She always taught me to approach life with joy and laughter\,” he said. \nThat message is something he carries into every performance. \n“I try to spread joy and inspiration with my music and my life…even during difficult times.” \n \nWhy You Don’t Want to Miss This \nIf you’ve never experienced Alvin Garrett live\, this is the show to start with. \n“I’ve built a legacy in Birmingham of presenting shows with a high level of professionalism and production quality\,” he said. \nBut this one hits different. \n“I just want to show my gratitude with a performance that everyone can be proud of…especially our mothers.” \nWhat’s Next \nThis Mother’s Day concert is just the beginning. \n“This will be the kickoff show for my ‘Talk To Her Like This’ tour\,” Garrett revealed. \nThe tour will include full-band performances\, media appearances\, and stops across multiple cities as he continues to push his latest album. \n Event Details \nLaughter\, Love & Legacy: A Mother’s Day Celebration\n📅 Sunday\, May 10\n🕔 Doors: 5PM | Show: 6PM\n📍 Carver Theatre – Birmingham\, AL\n🎟️ Tickets: JazzHall.com \n \nStay Connected \nFollow Alvin Garrett for updates: \n\nInstagram / Facebook / TikTok: @thealvingarrett\nWebsite: AlvinGarrett.com

SUMMARY:Jazz After Dark: A Candlelight Concert Featuring Elias Hendricks Comes to Birmingham August 29
DESCRIPTION:BIRMINGHAM\, Ala. – Birmingham is getting an elegant evening of live music\, candlelight and Black-tie sophistication as the UNCF Young Professionals Advisory Council (YPAC) presents Jazz After Dark: A Candlelight Concert on Saturday\, August 29\, 2026. \nThe exclusive Black-tie experience will feature Elias Hendricks\, bringing live jazz to an intimate candlelight setting at the Harambe Room\, located at 1815 4th Avenue North\, 3rd Floor\, in downtown Birmingham. \nDoors open at 7 p.m.\, with the show beginning at 8 p.m. \nDesigned as more than just a night out\, Jazz After Dark combines live entertainment\, atmosphere and purpose while supporting the work and mission connected to UNCF (United Negro College Fund) and its Young Professionals Advisory Council. \n \nAn Evening of Jazz With a Purpose\nUNCF has spent decades working to increase educational opportunities for students while supporting historically Black colleges and universities and helping students gain access to higher education. \nThe Young Professionals Advisory Council provides an avenue for emerging professionals and community leaders to become engaged with that mission through fundraising\, advocacy\, networking and community involvement. \nJazz After Dark brings that mission together with an upscale social experience\, giving Birmingham-area professionals and supporters an opportunity to enjoy an evening of entertainment while connecting with an organization focused on expanding educational opportunity. \nGuests can expect a candlelit atmosphere with Elias Hendricks taking center stage for an evening of live jazz. \nThe event is promoted as an “Exclusive Black Tie Experience\,” making it a great opportunity for couples\, groups of friends\, young professionals\, UNCF supporters and jazz lovers looking for something different to experience in Birmingham. \n \nBirmingham Talent With a Global Stage\nFor Birmingham audiences\, the evening also provides an opportunity to experience the extraordinary talent of Birmingham native Elias Hendricks III\, whose career has taken him from his hometown to stages around the world. A classically trained tenor with the ability to move seamlessly between opera\, soul\, gospel\, musical theater and contemporary music\, Hendricks has performed internationally in productions including Disney’s The Lion King in Hong Kong and Motown: The Musical on London’s West End\, in addition to touring Europe with his one-man soul show\, Ain’t Too Proud to Beg. \nHendricks’ international career has also taken him around the world as a featured entertainer aboard major cruise ships. Earlier in his career\, he spent six months performing his own show during a world cruise\, and cruise entertainment continues to be an active part of his career today. SUMMARY:Dîner en Blanc Birmingham Returns September 12 with Chrisette Michele and Chef Lamar Lockett for an Elegant Evening Under the Stars
DESCRIPTION:BIRMINGHAM\, Ala. – One of Birmingham’s most anticipated social experiences is making its return this fall as Dîner en Blanc Birmingham celebrates its 7th edition on Saturday\, September 12\, 2026. Once again\, more than 1\,000 guests dressed entirely in white will gather at a secret location for an unforgettable evening inspired by the elegance and traditions of Paris. \n \nThis year’s celebration continues to raise the bar with the announcement that Grammy Award-winning singer Chrisette Michele will perform live while acclaimed Birmingham chef joins the experience as the featured culinary talent. Together\, the two additions promise to make the 2026 edition one of the most memorable in the event’s history. \n \nKnown for showcasing Birmingham’s culinary excellence\, organizers have selected Chef Lamar Lockett to help create an elevated dining experience that reflects this year’s international theme\, “Une Soirée Parisienne – La Belle Époque.” The theme celebrates one of Paris’ most elegant eras\, encouraging guests to embrace timeless all-white fashion while enjoying exceptional cuisine\, conversation\, and entertainment beneath the stars. \nOne of the traditions that makes Dîner en Blanc unlike any other event is the mystery surrounding its location. Guests first gather at designated departure points before being escorted by volunteers to the undisclosed venue. Throughout the evening\, signature moments such as the iconic Napkin Wave and the sparkling sendoff create an atmosphere of celebration that has helped make the event a global phenomenon. \nParticipants are asked to follow several long-standing traditions\, including wearing an all-white ensemble and bringing white tables\, chairs\, linens\, dinnerware\, and décor. Guests may either pack their own gourmet picnic or reserve catered meals and rental equipment through the event’s online store. In keeping with its French heritage\, wine and Champagne are served\, while guests are also welcome to bring non-alcoholic beverages. The event also maintains a strong commitment to sustainability by asking every attendee to leave the venue exactly as they found it. \nDîner en Blanc Birmingham is hosted by Jasmine Allen\, who returns alongside Lynnette Favors to welcome guests for another year of elegance and celebration. Allen describes this year’s experience as “elegance in motion—timeless\, luminous\, and unapologetically French\,” capturing the spirit of the 2026 theme and the atmosphere guests can expect. \nOriginally launched in Paris\, Dîner en Blanc has grown into an international cultural phenomenon spanning more than 120 cities across 40 countries\, bringing communities together through fashion\, food\, entertainment\, and unforgettable shared experiences. \nGuests interested in attending are encouraged to join the Birmingham Fan List to receive updates and notification when Phase 3 registration becomes available. SUMMARY:Irondale Celebrates 139 Years with FREE Music Fest Featuring The Tony Tatum Experience
DESCRIPTION:IRONDALE\, AL — The City of Irondale is getting ready to celebrate its 139th birthday in a big way with an afternoon of live music\, food and community at Irondale Music Fest 2026\, presented by Mayor James D. Stewart Jr. \nThe FREE celebration takes place Saturday\, September 26\, at Beacon Park\, 5309 Beacon Drive in Irondale. Gates open at 3 p.m.\, with the show beginning at 4 p.m. The event runs until 7 p.m. and admission is free. \nThe Tony Tatum Experience Headlines a Strong Lineup\nHeadlining this year’s celebration is The Tony Tatum Experience\, and this won’t be a scaled-down performance. Tatum is bringing his full 12-piece band to Beacon Park for the celebration. \nThose who attended I Love Irondale Day earlier this summer may remember Tatum bringing plenty of energy to the stage. For Music Fest\, he’s returning with an even bigger show. \nBut the music doesn’t stop there. \n \nThe festival lineup also includes violinist Dominique Hammons\, whose high-energy performances bring the violin into the worlds of R&B\, jazz\, soul and contemporary music. \nAdding some HBCU flavor to the celebration will be the Alabama A&M University Choir\, bringing the rich vocal tradition of one of Alabama’s historic HBCUs to the Irondale stage. \nBirmingham-area flutist Sherry Reeves will also perform\, adding another dimension to an afternoon designed to showcase a variety of musical styles and sounds. \nAnd keeping the music moving throughout the celebration will be DJ Maverick (Willie Hudgins)\, another familiar face at Irondale community events. \nIt’s a lineup that gives you a little bit of everything—live band energy\, strings\, vocals\, jazz influences and a DJ keeping the party going. \nBring Your Lawn Chairs — and Your Appetite\nIrondale Music Fest is designed to be more than just a concert. It’s a community birthday party\, so bring your lawn chairs\, find a comfortable spot and plan to spend the afternoon. \nThere will also be plenty to eat. Food vendors announced for the festival include Eugene’s Hot Chicken\, AJ’s Lemonade\, Dream Flavors\, GeGe’s Tasty Cakes\, Good Ole DAWGS\, My Planet Punches\, Signature Grille and The DIRTY RED. \nParking will be available at “The Hill” at Grants Mill Station\, with shuttle service provided to Beacon Park. Small coolers and clear bags are allowed; however\, outside food is not permitted. \nUrbanham Has Been Watching What’s Happening in Irondale\nIf you’ve been following Urbanham\, you already know that we’ve been keeping an eye on Irondale. \nEarlier this year\, we published “We REALLY Like What’s Going On In Irondale” after spending some time in the city and getting a closer look at its community events and economic-development vision. \nWhat caught our attention wasn’t simply one project or one event. It was the combination of community engagement\, quality-of-life initiatives and major economic development happening at the same time. \nAnd Irondale hasn’t slowed down. \nEarlier this month\, the city hosted Cruise-In Cinema\, combining a car show with an outdoor showing of Furious 7. The September 11 event featured free admission\, free popcorn\, food and drink vendors and a Best in Show competition. \nEvents like Cruise-In Cinema and Music Fest are giving residents something to do while also giving people from throughout the Birmingham metro another reason to come into Irondale. \n“One City. One Billion.”\nAll of this is happening alongside Mayor Stewart’s ambitious vision for Irondale’s future. \nThe city’s “One City. One Billion.” initiative is centered around attracting $1 billion in investment by 2033\, with economic development\, residential growth and quality-of-life improvements helping drive that strategy. \nThat’s a big number—but some equally big projects are beginning to make that vision feel much more tangible. \nOne of the most talked-about developments is the arrival of Costco\, a project expected to significantly expand Irondale’s retail footprint while attracting shoppers from throughout the Birmingham metro and beyond. \nAnd now there’s another major development to watch. \n$30 Million Golf House Alabama Coming to Irondale\nThe Alabama Golf Foundation recently purchased approximately 80 acres next to Pine Tree Golf & Country Club for the development of Golf House Alabama\, a statewide golf destination that will bring several of Alabama’s golf organizations together in one location and become home to the new Alabama Golf Hall of Fame. \nThe foundation is raising funds toward a $30 million goal for the first phase\, with construction expected to begin in November 2026 and the facility targeted to open in 2028. Combined with the neighboring Pine Tree Golf & Country Club property\, the investment encompasses approximately 363 acres. \nAnd this isn’t simply office space. \nPlans include a 30-bay hitting area with TrackMan technology\, championship-caliber par-3 course\, short-game practice area\, outdoor event lawn\, instructional areas and an Agronomy and Careers Center affiliated with Auburn University. \nMayor Stewart has connected the Golf House project directly to Irondale’s larger vision of becoming a destination city rather than simply a community people pass through. \nThat’s an important distinction. \nRetail brings people into a city. Recreation brings people into a city. Entertainment brings people into a city. Community events bring people into a city. \nPut them together\, and you begin creating a destination. \n \nCome for the Music — Keep Watching Irondale\nThat’s what makes Irondale Music Fest 2026 interesting beyond what happens on the stage. \nIrondale is celebrating 139 years of history while simultaneously making some pretty ambitious plans for its future. \nFrom community events like Cruise-In Cinema and Music Fest to major projects involving Costco and Golf House Alabama\, Irondale is giving residents—and the rest of the Birmingham metro—more reasons to pay attention. \nBut on Saturday\, September 26\, economic development can take a back seat for a few hours. \nBring your lawn chair\, grab something good to eat and enjoy The Tony Tatum Experience\, Dominique Hammons\, the Alabama A&M University Choir\, Sherry Reeves and DJ Maverick as Irondale celebrates its 139th birthday. \nIRONDALE MUSIC FEST 2026Saturday\, September 26\, 20263 p.m.–7 p.m. | Gates Open at 3 p.m. | Show Starts at 4 p.m.Beacon Park | 5309 Beacon Drive | Irondale\, AL 35210Admission: FREE \nUrbanham.com will continue watching what’s happening in Irondale as the city works toward its vision for 2033. The Wiregrass Heritage Festival returns to Dothan on Saturday\, September 26\, 2026\, bringing a full evening of Southern Soul\, live entertainment\, and community energy to the National Peanut Festival Fairgrounds. \nIf last year is any indication\, this isn’t just a concert — it’s an experience. \nA Lineup Built for the Culture \nThe 2026 edition of the festival features a strong lineup of Southern Soul artists and performers who know how to connect with a crowd. \nThis year’s performers include: \n\nMarcellus The Singer\nWest Love\nTonio Armani\nYoung Guy\nCupid\nMr. Campbell\nAnthony Q\nBreeze MrDo2Much\nDJ Trucker\n\nHosting duties will be handled by comedian MC Lightfoot\, adding another layer of entertainment throughout the evening. \nWith gates opening at 3:00 PM and the show kicking off at 4:30 PM\, attendees can expect hours of music\, dancing\, and high-energy performances that carry into the night. \n \nAn Outdoor Festival Feel \nSet at the National Peanut Festival Fairgrounds\, the event embraces a laid-back\, outdoor vibe that has become part of its identity. \nGuests are encouraged to bring: \n\nLawn chairs\nSoft or collapsible coolers\nUmbrellas\n\nIt’s a setup that feels more like a community gathering than a traditional concert — where people can settle in\, enjoy the music\, and make a full day out of the experience. \nOrganizers have also made it clear: \n\nNo glass containers\nNo grills or RVs\nNo re-entry once inside\n\nAnd like many outdoor festivals\, the event will take place rain or shine. \nTicket Options and Planning Ahead \nTickets are available now\, with pricing that increases as the event gets closer: \n\n$45 Early Bird (through August 2\, 2026)\n$55 General Admission (August 3 – September 20)\n$65 Week of Show\n$80 Day of Show\n\nFor those looking for a more premium experience\, VIP tickets ($85) offer: \n\nExclusive entrance\nFront-of-stage access\nProvided seating (no chair required)\n\nGiven the festival’s growing popularity\, early purchase is strongly encouraged — especially for those planning to travel in. \nA Growing Regional Draw \nEvents like the Wiregrass Heritage Festival continue to highlight the strength of Alabama’s live entertainment scene beyond its major metro areas. \nDothan\, often considered the heart of the Wiregrass region\, becomes a destination for visitors traveling from across Alabama\, Georgia\, and Florida. That kind of draw brings: \n\nHotel bookings\nRestaurant traffic\nIncreased visibility for local businesses\n\nMore importantly\, it reinforces how music and culture can serve as a unifying force across communities. \nMore Than Just a Festival \nWhat makes the Wiregrass Heritage Festival stand out is its consistency. Year after year\, it delivers an experience that feels familiar but continues to grow. \nIt’s where: \n\nSouthern Soul fans show up in full force\nFriends and families gather\nMusic\, laughter\, and culture all meet in one space\n\nFinal Word \nFor those looking to close out September with good music and good energy\, Dothan will once again be the place to be. \nThe Wiregrass Heritage Festival isn’t trying to be anything complicated — and that’s exactly why it works. \nIt’s simple:\n👉 Good music.\n👉 Good people.\n👉 A good time. \n🎟️ Tickets and event details:\nwww.WiregrassHeritageFestival.com
