A new informational webinar titled “Voting Rights and the Upcoming Elections: What You Need to Know” aims to help educate voters on the current state of voting rights\, ongoing legal and legislative challenges\, and the potential impact these issues could have on upcoming elections. \nSponsored by the Coalition of Concerned Voters\, the webinar brings together respected voices in civil rights\, voting advocacy\, and constitutional law to discuss why civic engagement and voter awareness remain critical in today’s political climate. \nThis Is A Conversation Matters \nFor many Black voters and historically marginalized communities\, voting has never simply been about the current election cycle — it has often represented a long-term fight for equal access\, representation\, and future opportunity. Alabama itself sits at the center of many of the nation’s most historic voting rights battles\, from the Selma marches of the 1960s to recent redistricting and voter representation lawsuits that continue to shape the political landscape today. \nThe upcoming elections are expected to be heavily influenced by ongoing debates surrounding: \n\nCongressional and legislative redistricting\nAccess to polling locations\nVoter ID laws\nMail-in voting and absentee ballot access\nRepresentation of minority communities\nFederal court rulings affecting voting protections\n\nEducational forums like this webinar are important because they help voters understand not only how to vote\, but also how policies and court decisions can influence whose voices are heard at the ballot box. \nFeatured Panelists \nKim Bailey \nKim Bailey serves as President of the League of Women Voters of Alabama\, an organization known nationally for its nonpartisan work focused on voter education\, civic participation\, and protecting democratic processes. Bailey has been actively involved in efforts to increase voter awareness and engagement throughout Alabama while advocating for fair and accessible elections. Her work often centers on empowering citizens with factual information about voting procedures\, policy issues\, and civic responsibility. \n  \n  \n\nThe Honorable U.W. Clemon \nThe Honorable U.W. Clemon is a retired U.S. District Judge and longtime civil rights attorney whose impact on Alabama’s legal and civil rights history is significant. Judge Clemon made history as Alabama’s first Black federal judge when appointed to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama in 1980. Prior to his judicial service\, he worked as a civil rights attorney during some of the South’s most transformative years\, helping challenge systemic discrimination and inequality. His perspective brings historical depth and firsthand experience to conversations about voting rights and equal protection under the law. \n  \n  \n\nJaTaune Bosby \nJaTaune Bosby is the Executive Director of the ACLU of Alabama\, where she leads statewide efforts focused on civil liberties\, voting rights\, criminal justice reform\, and social equity. Bosby has become one of Alabama’s leading voices on issues impacting marginalized communities and civic participation.
