SUMMARY:Jazz After Dark: A Candlelight Concert Featuring Elias Hendricks Comes to Birmingham August 29
DESCRIPTION:BIRMINGHAM\, Ala. – Birmingham is getting an elegant evening of live music\, candlelight and Black-tie sophistication as the UNCF Young Professionals Advisory Council (YPAC) presents Jazz After Dark: A Candlelight Concert on Saturday\, August 29\, 2026. \nThe exclusive Black-tie experience will feature Elias Hendricks\, bringing live jazz to an intimate candlelight setting at the Harambe Room\, located at 1815 4th Avenue North\, 3rd Floor\, in downtown Birmingham. \nDoors open at 7 p.m.\, with the show beginning at 8 p.m. \nDesigned as more than just a night out\, Jazz After Dark combines live entertainment\, atmosphere and purpose while supporting the work and mission connected to UNCF (United Negro College Fund) and its Young Professionals Advisory Council. \n \nAn Evening of Jazz With a Purpose\nUNCF has spent decades working to increase educational opportunities for students while supporting historically Black colleges and universities and helping students gain access to higher education. \nThe Young Professionals Advisory Council provides an avenue for emerging professionals and community leaders to become engaged with that mission through fundraising\, advocacy\, networking and community involvement. \nJazz After Dark brings that mission together with an upscale social experience\, giving Birmingham-area professionals and supporters an opportunity to enjoy an evening of entertainment while connecting with an organization focused on expanding educational opportunity. \nGuests can expect a candlelit atmosphere with Elias Hendricks taking center stage for an evening of live jazz. \nThe event is promoted as an “Exclusive Black Tie Experience\,” making it a great opportunity for couples\, groups of friends\, young professionals\, UNCF supporters and jazz lovers looking for something different to experience in Birmingham. \n \nBirmingham Talent With a Global Stage\nFor Birmingham audiences\, the evening also provides an opportunity to experience the extraordinary talent of Birmingham native Elias Hendricks III\, whose career has taken him from his hometown to stages around the world. A classically trained tenor with the ability to move seamlessly between opera\, soul\, gospel\, musical theater and contemporary music\, Hendricks has performed internationally in productions including Disney’s The Lion King in Hong Kong and Motown: The Musical on London’s West End\, in addition to touring Europe with his one-man soul show\, Ain’t Too Proud to Beg. \nHendricks’ international career has also taken him around the world as a featured entertainer aboard major cruise ships. Earlier in his career\, he spent six months performing his own show during a world cruise\, and cruise entertainment continues to be an active part of his career today. Most recently\, Hendricks completed an engagement aboard MSC Euribia before traveling to Fiji to join P&O Cruises’ Arcadia during its World Cruise. His years of performing for audiences across different countries and cultures have helped shape the distinctive sound he calls “Classical Soul”—a fusion of his operatic training with the soul\, gospel and R&B influences of his Birmingham roots. \nHendricks is also the founder of the classical crossover group Vox Fortura\, which reached the semifinals of Britain’s Got Talent and has performed internationally. After more than a decade of taking his talent around the world\, his appearance at Jazz After Dark gives Birmingham audiences an opportunity to experience a hometown artist whose voice and stage presence have entertained audiences across the globe. \nTickets and Tables\nIndividual tickets are $125. \nGuests who want to experience the evening together can purchase a table for four guests for $400. \nSponsorship opportunities are also available for businesses\, organizations and individuals interested in supporting the event and the work of UNCF YPAC. \nEvent Details\nWhat: Jazz After Dark: A Candlelight ConcertPresented by: UNCF Young Professionals Advisory CouncilFeaturing: Elias HendricksDate: Saturday\, August 29\, 2026Doors Open: 7 p.m.Show Starts: 8 p.m.Location: Harambe RoomAddress: 1815 4th Avenue North\, 3rd Floor\, Birmingham\, AL 35203Attire/Experience: Exclusive Black Tie ExperienceIndividual Tickets: $125Table for Four Guests: $400 \nTickets and tables can be purchased using the Tickets/Tables QR code on the event flyer. SUMMARY:Port City Classic Weekend in Mobile Expands with Star-Studded Tailgate Concert (September 4)
DESCRIPTION:There’s a certain energy that comes with HBCU football weekends — the bands\, the tailgates\, the culture. But in Mobile\, the Port City Classic is quickly becoming something bigger than just a game. \n\n\n\nThis year’s lineup makes that clear. \n\n\n\nSet against the backdrop of Labor Day weekend\, the Port City Classic is building into a full experience\, anchored not only by football but by a growing slate of entertainment\, including a major \nTailgate Concert presented by American Entertainment Group (AEG).  \n \n\n\n\nA Concert That Feels Like Its Own Headliner Event \n\n\n\nTaking place Friday\, September 4th at Ladd-Peebles Stadium\, the Tailgate Concert is shaping up to be one of the weekend’s biggest draws. \n\n\n\nThe lineup leans heavily into Southern soul and crowd favorites\, featuring: \n\n\n\n\nBig Pokey\n\n\n\nCupid\n\n\n\n69 Boyz\n\n\n\nUrban Mystic\n\n\n\nNathaniel Kimble\n\n\n\nFat Daddy\n\n\n\nKai\n\n\n\nIda Lee\n\n\n\nDavid J\n\n\n\n\n…and more acts still to be announced. \n\n\n\nWith gates opening at 5:00 PM and showtime set for 7:30 PM\, the concert sets the tone for the entire weekend — blending nostalgia\, live performance energy\, and the kind of crowd engagement that keeps people coming back year after year. \n\n\n\nFor many\, this won’t just be a pre-game event. It’ll be a destination all on its own. \n\n\n\nMore Than Football — A Full Weekend Experience \n\n\n\nWhile the concert adds major star power\, the Port City Classic continues to build its identity around a full lineup of events that extend beyond the stadium. \n\n\n\nThroughout the weekend\, Mobile becomes a hub for activity\, including: \n\n\n\n\nCommunity events and networking opportunities\n\n\n\nTailgates and fan experiences\n\n\n\nEducational programming like the HBCU Summit\n\n\n\nLive music and cultural activations across the city\n\n\n\n\nIt’s the kind of setup that turns a single game into a weekend people plan trips around. \n\n\n\nWhy It’s Growing \n\n\n\nWhat’s happening with the Port City Classic isn’t by accident. It reflects a larger shift in how events are being built — especially in the South. \n\n\n\nPeople aren’t just looking for a game anymore. They’re looking for an experience. \n\n\n\nAnd Mobile is leaning into that. \n\n\n\nBy combining football\, live entertainment\, and community-driven programming\, the Port City Classic is creating something that: \n\n\n\n\nAttracts visitors from across the region\n\n\n\nDrives hotel stays and local business traffic\n\n\n\nShowcases the cultural impact of HBCUs\n\n\n\nPositions Mobile as a destination city for major events\n\n\n\n\nThe Bigger Picture \n\n\n\nFrom the outside looking in\, this is what successful regional events are starting to look like — layered\, intentional\, and built to serve multiple audiences at once. \n\n\n\nYou’ve got: \n\n\n\n\nFootball fans\n\n\n\nMusic lovers\n\n\n\nAlumni and organizations\n\n\n\nYoung professionals and creatives\n\n\n\n\nAll finding a reason to show up. \n\n\n\nAnd when that happens\, the impact goes beyond entertainment. It becomes economic. \n\n\n\nFinal Thought \n\n\n\nThe Port City Classic is still growing\, but weekends like this show exactly where it’s headed. \n\n\n\nIt’s not just about who’s playing on the field. It’s about what’s happening around it. \n\n\n\nAnd with additions like the AEG Tailgate Concert\, Mobile is making it clear — this isn’t just a game anymore. \n\n\n\nIt’s a full weekend experience. \n\n\n\nTo find out more visit https://www.mobileportcityclassic.com or visit https://www.americanentgroup.com

SUMMARY:Dîner en Blanc Birmingham Returns September 12 with Chrisette Michele and Chef Lamar Lockett for an Elegant Evening Under the Stars
DESCRIPTION:BIRMINGHAM\, Ala. – One of Birmingham’s most anticipated social experiences is making its return this fall as Dîner en Blanc Birmingham celebrates its 7th edition on Saturday\, September 12\, 2026. Once again\, more than 1\,000 guests dressed entirely in white will gather at a secret location for an unforgettable evening inspired by the elegance and traditions of Paris. \n \nThis year’s celebration continues to raise the bar with the announcement that Grammy Award-winning singer Chrisette Michele will perform live while acclaimed Birmingham chef joins the experience as the featured culinary talent. Together\, the two additions promise to make the 2026 edition one of the most memorable in the event’s history. \n \nKnown for showcasing Birmingham’s culinary excellence\, organizers have selected Chef Lamar Lockett to help create an elevated dining experience that reflects this year’s international theme\, “Une Soirée Parisienne – La Belle Époque.” The theme celebrates one of Paris’ most elegant eras\, encouraging guests to embrace timeless all-white fashion while enjoying exceptional cuisine\, conversation\, and entertainment beneath the stars. \nOne of the traditions that makes Dîner en Blanc unlike any other event is the mystery surrounding its location. Guests first gather at designated departure points before being escorted by volunteers to the undisclosed venue. Throughout the evening\, signature moments such as the iconic Napkin Wave and the sparkling sendoff create an atmosphere of celebration that has helped make the event a global phenomenon. \nParticipants are asked to follow several long-standing traditions\, including wearing an all-white ensemble and bringing white tables\, chairs\, linens\, dinnerware\, and décor. Guests may either pack their own gourmet picnic or reserve catered meals and rental equipment through the event’s online store. In keeping with its French heritage\, wine and Champagne are served\, while guests are also welcome to bring non-alcoholic beverages. The event also maintains a strong commitment to sustainability by asking every attendee to leave the venue exactly as they found it. \nDîner en Blanc Birmingham is hosted by Jasmine Allen\, who returns alongside Lynnette Favors to welcome guests for another year of elegance and celebration. Allen describes this year’s experience as “elegance in motion—timeless\, luminous\, and unapologetically French\,” capturing the spirit of the 2026 theme and the atmosphere guests can expect. \nOriginally launched in Paris\, Dîner en Blanc has grown into an international cultural phenomenon spanning more than 120 cities across 40 countries\, bringing communities together through fashion\, food\, entertainment\, and unforgettable shared experiences. \nGuests interested in attending are encouraged to join the Birmingham Fan List to receive updates and notification when Phase 3 registration becomes available. SUMMARY:Let’s Build Birmingham II Returns With Focus on Real Estate Ownership\, Development and Generational Wealth (September 18 - 19)
DESCRIPTION:BIRMINGHAM\, AL — As redevelopment continues to reshape neighborhoods throughout Birmingham\, an upcoming two-day conference is looking to make sure everyday people have an opportunity to participate in that growth—not simply watch it happen. \nLet’s Build Birmingham II: The National Real Estate Development Conference will take place September 18–19\, 2026\, at Boutwell Auditorium in downtown Birmingham. \nNow in its second year\, the conference is expected to bring together hundreds of investors\, developers\, contractors\, builders\, entrepreneurs\, lenders\, real estate professionals and people who simply want to learn how to get started in real estate. \nThe central message behind the event is straightforward: ownership\, opportunity and generational wealth. \nAccording to organizers\, attendees will receive practical education on finding and purchasing land\, acquiring tax and auction properties\, building new construction\, understanding zoning and permitting\, securing financing and working with architects\, builders\, contractors and lenders. (Luma) \nParticipants will also learn about income-producing real estate strategies ranging from traditional development to furnished rentals\, Airbnb properties\, truck parking and group homes. Organizers say no previous real estate experience is required. (Luma) \n \nWhy This Matters for Birmingham \nWhat makes Let’s Build Birmingham particularly timely is what is happening throughout the city. \nBirmingham continues to wrestle with vacant\, abandoned and tax-delinquent properties while simultaneously experiencing new investment and redevelopment. The Birmingham Land Bank Authority was specifically established to return vacant and abandoned property to productive use\, reduce blight\, stabilize neighborhoods and encourage redevelopment. (Birmingham Land Bank Authority) \nThe City of Birmingham has also made neighborhood revitalization and affordable housing major priorities. Its 2026 legislative agenda calls for additional tools to return abandoned properties to productive use and help longtime residents remain in their communities as redevelopment occurs. (City of Birmingham) \nThat creates both an opportunity and an important question: \nWho will own the Birmingham of the future? \nThere are properties that need rehabilitation. There are vacant lots capable of supporting new construction. There are neighborhoods positioned for additional investment. And there are Birmingham residents who may have the desire to participate but don’t necessarily understand how to move from an idea to actually acquiring property\, obtaining financing\, navigating zoning and permits\, hiring contractors and completing a development. \nThat is where education becomes important. \nMoving From Consumer to Owner \nFor Birmingham’s Black community in particular\, conversations surrounding real estate can also be conversations about generational wealth. \nNationally\, the Black homeownership rate continues to trail the White homeownership rate significantly\, and historical barriers including redlining and discriminatory lending have contributed to today’s wealth gap. Birmingham itself has been at the center of recent federal action involving allegations of mortgage redlining in majority-Black neighborhoods. (The Washington Post) \nAt the same time\, Birmingham remains attractive to real estate investors because property can still be comparatively affordable relative to many larger American markets. \nThat combination makes it increasingly important for local residents to understand real estate not only from the perspective of buying a home\, but also owning land\, developing property and participating in the economic growth of their own neighborhoods. \nThe objective shouldn’t simply be watching outside investors recognize Birmingham’s potential before the people who already live here do. \nMore Than Classroom Education \nOrganizers say Let’s Build Birmingham II is designed to move beyond the traditional conference experience. \nAttendees can expect live development case studies\, ground-up construction education\, financing and lending workshops\, access to experienced builders and developers\, networking opportunities and real-world examples of redevelopment taking place around Birmingham.
