BIRMINGHAM’S NEGRO SOUTHERN LEAGUE MUSEUM, DIVISION OF YOUTH SERVICES, BIRMINGHAM PARKS & RECREATION, V94.9 FM & BIRMINGHAM URBAN LEAGUE PRESENT THE 3RD ANNUAL 2023 JACKIE ROBINSON STREET FESTIVAL

BIRMINGHAM, AL – In honor of Jackie Robinson Day, the Birmingham Negro Southern League Museum (NSLM) will hold the 2023 Jackie Robinson Street Festival on Saturday, April 15, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This event is in partnership with V94.9 FMBirmingham City Department of Parks and Recreation, The Mayor’s Office Division of Youth Services, and Birmingham Urban League, who will sponsor the Jackie Robinson Black & Bling Jazz with Jackie private VIP reception taking place on Friday, April 14, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. The events are part of the April 15th annual nationwide celebration of Jackie Robinson Day.

This year’s festival will include meeting former Negro League and Industrial League players, children’s activities, stage performances, fitness activities, food trucks and vendors, and an appearance from Barry the Bear, the NSLM’s beloved mascot.  Guests will experience a day full of history as former players will be signing autographs and sharing memories, while adult and youth ensemble actors from the Make It Happen Theatre Co. will present monologues portraying Jackie Robinson and Satchel Paige. The museum will be open to view artifacts and memorabilia telling the story of black baseball in Birmingham and across the nation.

“Each department has been hard at work to make this year’s event a grand affair,” said Alicia Johnson-Williams, Senior Director at the NSLM. “Our goal is to provide the families of the Greater Birmingham Community, the state of Alabama, and surrounding areas an opportunity to celebrate this legendary 2nd baseman who broke the color barrier in the baseball industry.”
