Celebrate Legacy and Opportunity: Birmingham to Host Inaugural Naomi H. Truman Scholars’ Legacy Gala
The commitment to education, opportunity, and community impact will take center stage on Saturday, April 25, 2026, as the Naomi H. Truman Scholarship Foundation hosts its inaugural Scholars’ Legacy Gala at Haven in Birmingham, Alabama.
Designed as an elegant evening of purpose and celebration, the event will bring together community leaders, corporate partners, and advocates who share a common goal — investing in the next generation of students across the Birmingham region.
An Evening of Purpose and Prestige
The night will begin with an exclusive VIP cocktail hour from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM, followed by the main gala experience from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
Guests can expect a dynamic and engaging program, including:
- Live entertainment featuring D Smooth
- Hosting by Birmingham favorite Lady Woo
- A keynote address from Jefferson County District Attorney Danny Carr
The event blends sophistication with substance — creating a space where celebration meets community impact.
A Legacy Rooted in Education and Access
The Naomi H. Truman Scholarship Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and an instrumentality of the Housing Authority of the Birmingham District (HABD), has been changing lives since its founding in 2012.
Originally established as the HABD Scholarship Foundation, the organization was renamed in 2018 to honor the legacy of Naomi H. Truman, a visionary leader who served as HABD’s Executive Director and the Foundation’s first president.
Her mission was simple but powerful:
remove financial barriers and create pathways to higher education.
Since its inception, the Foundation has:
- Awarded over $400,000 in scholarships
- Supported students living in public housing or participating in the Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) Program
- Helped scholars pursue college degrees, trade certifications, and technical careers
More Than a Gala — A Call to Action
The Scholars’ Legacy Gala serves as both a celebration and a catalyst.
Attendees and supporters have two key ways to make an impact:
- Become a sponsor and directly support scholarship funding
- Purchase tickets and be part of an evening that fuels real change
