NBA Energy Returns to the Magic City: The Birmingham Squadron Tip Off Year Five
The 2025–2026 Birmingham Squadron season officially tipped off on November 7th at Legacy Arena against the Austin Spurs — marking Year Five for the Pelicans’ G-League affiliate right here in the Magic City.
A Milestone Season for the Squadron
Although the Squadron didn’t pull out the win on opening night, the buzz of NBA-level basketball in downtown Birmingham continues to be exciting! The experience of professional basketball is all there — NBA-caliber players chasing their big shot, courtside vibes, in-game entertainment and giveaways, plus concessions featuring great food, beverages, cocktails, and beer.
Five seasons in, the Birmingham Squadron have become much more than a basketball team — they’re a symbol of the city’s growing sports culture. As the official G-League affiliate of the New Orleans Pelicans, the Squadron continue to bring high-level hoops and rising NBA talent to local fans.
From thrilling slam dunks to courtside fan engagement, each game at Legacy Arena at the BJCC offers the kind of professional-sports experience that many families usually travel hours to enjoy.

Why Supporting Local Pro Teams Matters
Birmingham is now home to several professional-level teams — the Squadron (basketball), Birmingham Legion FC (soccer), the Birmingham Barons (baseball), and the Birmingham Stallions (football) — with each team contributing to the city’s growing identity as a hub for sports and entertainment.
Supporting these teams matters because:
- They boost local pride. Every game helps strengthen the community’s spirit.
- They drive economic impact. Hotels, restaurants, and local businesses benefit from fans attending games downtown.
- They create family experiences. Affordable tickets and family-friendly atmospheres make them perfect outings when budgets are tighter.
- They inspire the next generation. Youth sports camps, school visits, and player appearances show kids that professional opportunities exist close to home.

A Perfect Family or Tourist Outing
Legacy Arena transforms into a basketball haven on game nights — a lively mix of music, giveaways, and crowd energy that’s hard to match. Whether you’re a local looking for a weekend plan or a visitor exploring Birmingham’s downtown scene, Squadron games are one of the city’s most affordable entertainment options you will find.
When other costs are rising, it’s refreshing to find a budget-friendly night out where families can enjoy big-league excitement without breaking the bank.

While opening night served up a taste of what the season will offer fans will have to wait until December to catch the next series of home games so call ahead or visit the official Squadron website to get your tickets.
