Birmingham Alphas Install New Leadership During Omicron Lambda Chapter Public Installation Ceremony
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.’s Omicron Lambda Chapter welcomed a new era of leadership during their 2026 Public Installation of Officers, celebrating the chapter’s rich legacy while officially installing Bro. Jeremy D. Ervin as chapter president. The evening centered around the theme, “Continuing Legacy, Leaving Impact,” reflecting the chapter’s ongoing commitment to leadership, service, scholarship, and community engagement.
The ceremony began with a prelude featuring keyboard selections by Bro. Malcolm Cooper, followed by the call to order led by Master of Ceremonies Bro. Darren Allen. Bro. Roy Hodge offered the invocation before Bro. Ekow Sackey, vice president of the Omicron Lambda Chapter, welcomed members, guests, and supporters.
One of the evening’s highlights was the Divine Nine Recognition, where representatives from each historically Black Greek-letter organization were acknowledged through their respective hymns and greetings. Distinguished guests included Honorable Judge Ruby D. Clark of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.; Jefferson County District Attorney Danny Carr of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.; Alabama State Representative Ontario Tillman (District 56) of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.; Alabama State Representative Travis Hendrix (District 55) of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.; and Alabama House District 52 Representative-elect Gigi Hayes of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
Following remarks from Bro. Kelvin Wallace, Deputy District Director, the audience enjoyed a special musical medley performed by Bro. Reginald Jackson (Spring ’24) before the official installation ceremony began.
The installation was conducted by Bro. Mayberry, Alabama District Director, who administered the oath of office to the chapter’s newly elected leadership team:

- Dean of Membership: Bro. Christian Davis
- Parliamentarian: Bro. Treyvon Merritt
A symbolic highlight of the evening was the Passing of the Gavel, where outgoing President Bro. Charles Lacey reflected on his administration before formally transferring leadership to Bro. Ervin.
In his inaugural presidential address, Bro. Ervin embraced the evening’s theme, “Continuing Legacy, Leaving Impact,” calling on members to build upon the chapter’s nearly century-long tradition of service while preparing the next generation of leaders. Representatives from local Divine Nine organizations and the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) also extended congratulatory remarks to the new administration before Bro. Silas Baldwin closed the formal ceremony with a unity prayer for the officers, the brotherhood, and the Birmingham community.
The evening concluded with the fraternity’s hymn, closing remarks, and a fellowship reception where members, family, friends, and community leaders celebrated the chapter’s new leadership.
A Legacy Nearly 100 Years in the Making
Founded on February 14, 1925, the Omicron Lambda Chapter is the oldest alumni chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. in the State of Alabama. The chapter was established by Birmingham leaders who sought to strengthen educational opportunities while advancing the political, economic, and social progress of African Americans throughout the city.
For more than 100 years, the Birmingham Alphas have served as a pillar of the community through scholarship initiatives, mentorship programs, voter engagement, youth development, leadership training, and civic partnerships. Guided by Alpha Phi Alpha’s motto, “First of All, Servants of All, We Shall Transcend All,” the chapter continues to cultivate leaders while advocating for educational excellence and meaningful community service.
As Birmingham continues to grow and evolve, the installation of the Omicron Lambda Chapter’s newest officers represents more than a leadership transition—it reaffirms the fraternity’s enduring commitment to empowering future generations and strengthening the communities it has faithfully served for a century.
