8Ball & MJG and Bun B Join The Renaissance Orchestra for Black-Tie Birmingham Concert

BIRMINGHAM, AL — Southern hip-hop is getting the orchestral treatment when legendary rap duo 8Ball & MJG and UGK’s Bun B join The Renaissance Orchestra for a special black-tie concert at the BJCC Concert Hall on Friday, November 6, 2026.

Showtime is 8 p.m., and the BJCC officially describes the evening as a Black-Tie Event.

Southern Hip-Hop Meets the Orchestra

For longtime Southern hip-hop fans, this is definitely not your typical concert.

Memphis legends 8Ball & MJG helped establish the sound of Southern rap long before the South became the dominant force it is today. Their catalog includes fan favorites such as “Space Age Pimpin’” and “You Don’t Want Drama,” while their 2004 album Living Legends further cemented their place in Southern hip-hop history.

Joining them will be Houston legend Bun B, one-half of the influential duo UGK (Underground Kingz).

What makes this show particularly interesting is The Renaissance Orchestra, which brings live orchestral instrumentation into the hip-hop experience. Birmingham audiences will get an opportunity to see the orchestra on its own at the Lyric Theatre on September 25 before it returns in November to provide the musical backdrop for 8Ball & MJG and Bun B. Ticketmaster confirms all three acts on the November 6 lineup.

Break Out the Black Tie

And yes—dress for this one!

Rather than a traditional hip-hop concert atmosphere, the November 6 performance is officially being presented as a Black-Tie Event, creating an opportunity to dress up and experience some classic Southern hip-hop in an entirely different setting.

It’s hip-hop, live instrumentation and grown-folks date-night energy all in one evening.
